Hey, I’m David Rogers!

I’ve spent my entire life learning and teaching Chinese martial arts.

I began training back in 1984, and I’m proud to be a disciple of Master Deng Jan Gong — one of the most famous masters in Southern China. I’m fluent in Cantonese, and I still return to China regularly to further my studies in Tai Chi.

In 1995 I opened the Rising Crane Centre, where for twenty-five years I taught Tai Chi full-time and ran a clinic of traditional Chinese acupuncture. I’m a graduate of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine — so when I teach you the health side of Tai Chi, it comes from real training in both.

Over those years I taught around the world — across Europe, Asia, America, and the Middle East — and coached national and international champions in Tai Chi, with students winning competitions in The UK, Europe and Hong Kong.

Then, in 2020, after 25 years of running a full-time school, I closed the centre to take a sabbatical and travel to China for an extended study trip.

The universe, however, had other ideas — the outbreak of Covid-19 happened immediately after!

That’s when I realised my next move: teaching online. I spent lockdown building my online academy and teaching free lessons on YouTube to help people through the pandemic.

And here’s what I discovered…

I’m a complete beginner. Is this for me?

Absolutely. The curriculum starts from the very first step. ‘Level 1’ absolutely from scratch, showing you exactly how to warm up, breathe and stand.

Every movement is explained AND demonstrated in detail — students consistently describe the lessons as “detailed and easy to follow.” You’ll never be left guessing what to do next.

Am I too old (or too unfit) to start?

Tai Chi is practised well into people’s later decades — it’s gentle, low-impact, and famously good for balance and calm.

You train at your own pace, pause whenever you like, and repeat any lesson as often as you need. And Bonus #3 shows you how to plan the exact program for your level, whether you’re a beginner or advanced. (As with any exercise program, check with your doctor if you have health concerns.)

I have an injury / health problem. Can I still practise?

In most cases, yes — with the right modifications. Bonus #2 gives you lessons and instructions for adapting your practice safely around injuries and health problems.

Can I really learn Tai Chi online?

Yes — if the teaching is detailed enough, and if someone actually checks your practice. That’s the whole design of this academy.

Every lesson explains the intent behind the movement and the things to watch out for — and with individual video corrections, David personally reviews YOUR practice and tells you exactly what to refine. That’s something even most in-person group classes can’t offer.

How do the video corrections work?

Simple: record yourself practising with your phone, submit the video, and David reviews it — showing you what you did right and why, and what to improve next.

It’s the closest thing to having a master standing in the room with you.

How much space and equipment do I need?

A living-room-sized space is plenty, and you don’t need any special equipment — just comfortable clothing and a device to watch on.

Even ten minutes a day is enough to make real progress (Bonus #1 shows you exactly how).

How long until I can do a full form?

That depends on you! Everything you need is inside, broken into clear steps — it just depends on how consistently you practise.

Students who follow one lesson at a time and practise a little each day are often amazed how quickly the full sequence comes together. Learning the names of the movements (taught in the lessons) helps it stick, too. And when you’re ready, optional testing gives you a milestone to aim for.

What if it’s not for me? Can I cancel?
